LOOKING AHEAD
Christmas Concert: Our Annual Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday December 8th at 7.00 p.m. The first part of the evening will feature members of our congregation and guest performers in a variety concert. The second part will be our traditional Christmas pageant. Tickets will be on sale soon; all proceeds will go towards our World Vision project to build schools and provide education for children in Darfur, Sudan.
‘When Christmas Hurts’. Christmas is not a happy time for everyone; those who have been bereaved, or have suffered loss of employment, or who struggle with addictions are just a few of the people who find the season difficult. Our ‘When Christmas Hurts’ service is designed to provide comfort and healing; it will be held on Friday December 20th at 7.00 p.m.

Carol Service and ‘Bring a Friend’: Sunday December 22nd at 10.30 a.m. The Scripture readings tell the story of Christmas, starting from the Old Testament prophecies and then continuing with the Gospel stories of Jesus’ birth. In between these readings we sing carols – plenty of them! – so, if you like the carols of Christmas, this is the service for you. Some of the carols will be sung by everyone, some will be special performances by members of our congregation.

Many Christmas carols are familiar and enjoyable to people who are not churchgoers, and a service which does not include communion can be easier for them to participate in as well. This is a ‘bring-a-friend’ service, so please invite friends or family members who do not normally go to church; the service will be structured with them in mind.

Christmas Services:
Last year we had great success in rescheduling our Christmas Eve services, so we will continue with the new schedule this year:
·      Tue. Dec. 24th (Christmas Eve): 4.00 p.m. Informal Holy Communion for Families. The first part of the service (readings, sermon, prayers of the people) will be simplified and adapted and will include special activities for children. We hope that our families with pre-school children will find this a good service to attend.
·      Note that our renters, the Malankara Catholic Congregation, will be using our church for their Christmas Mass between 6 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.
·      Tue. Dec. 24th (Christmas Eve): 9.30 p.m. Holy Communion by Candlelight. This service replaces our traditional 11.00 p.m. ‘Midnight Service’.
·      Wed. Dec. 25th 10.00 a.m. Holy Communion for Christmas Day.

BEYOND OUR PARISH
‘Caring Evangelism: How to Live and Share Christ’s Love’.
The Caring Evangelism course is produced by Stephen Ministries. It is a process-oriented rather than results-oriented approach, concentrating on the things that we can do in the evangelizing process, and leaving the things that only God can do in God’s hands. The first part of the course takes participants through a ‘Caring Evangelism Cycle’, which is one model of what the process of conversion might look like. The second part focuses on the four evangelizing skills: building relationships, listening, witnessing, and praying.

We are offering the Caring Evangelism course in the Diocese of Edmonton this winter. It is designed to be taught over sixteen one-hour sessions. However, in order to make it accessible to people across the Diocese of Edmonton we are offering it on two weekends:
·      Friday November 29th (evening) and Saturday November 30th (morning and afternoon).
·      Friday January 17th evening to Sunday January 19th late afternoon.
The venue for these weekends will be announced closer to the first weekend; it will be in the Edmonton area. It is anticipated that we will ask for billets for out-of-town participants in order to keep costs to a minimum. There will be a registration fee of $50. Please contact the Synod Office to register.

For more information about the Caring Evangelism course, please see the Stephen Ministries website: (http://www.stephenministries.org/courses/default.cfm/743). You can also contact Tim Chesterton at stmrector@gmail.com.
