Sharing the Gospel . Going for Growth!

Fall Congregational meeting will be held on the 8th day of November A.D. 2009, at 12 o’clock pm, in St. Margaret’s Church at which time all baptized persons regularly attending Services of worship in this Parish or otherwise regularly receiving the administrations of the clergy of this parish are entitled to attend.

The next Seniors Lunch will be on November 12th, 11:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church. We will be having a guest speaker, Fred Rayment, who will be sharing his “War Memories”. Anyone else wishing to share their “war memories” is also welcomed to do so. Please contact the church office to confirm your attendance.

All Newcomers to St. Margaret’s! Mark your calendars for Friday November 13! We will have a dessert and coffee fellowship time, give a short history of the parish and share ideas for our community.

Sharing Your Faith without Losing Your Friends: Three Tuesday Evenings 7:30 – 9:30) (November 3rd, 10th, and 17th) OR Saturday November 14th (9:30 – 4:30).
We all find the idea of talking about our faith with our friends somewhat intimidating; we don’t know who we should be talking to, we’re worried we might offend people, we’re not sure how to explain the gospel to others, we’re afraid they might ask us questions too tough to answer – these are just a few of our fears! This course will address these and other issues and help us gain confidence that yes, we can share our faith in Christ with our friends without turning them off forever! There are two options for taking this course. You can take it over three Tuesday evenings OR you can take it on a Saturday, November 14th, 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. For more information contact Tim at stmrector@gmail.com or 780-437-7231. To register, sign up on the appropriate sheet on the table in the foyer.

Sunday November 15th: Stewardship Emphasis: David Connell, Planned Giving Officer of the Diocese of Edmonton, will be our guest preacher on November 15. Following each service he will make a short presentation about Planned Gifts and their benefits to you and the church.

Newsletter: If you have any information that you would like to contribute to the Christmas Newsletter, please submit it on or before November 22, 2009

Friday November 20th: Pot Luck with an international food theme and music night at the Church (6.30 p.m.) Please sign up in the Foyer to bring food. You are also invited to bring music if you feel so inclined. Volunteers are needed for set up and take down, please let the church office or Marg Rys know if you are willing to help out with this social evening.

Advent Quiet Day November 28, 2009 9:30 – 3:30, the theme will be “Keep Awake” (Matthew 25). See the Sign up sheet in the Foyer. Lunch will be provided, and a $5 donation is suggested.

Opportunities to Get More Involved: if you would like to get more involved in the church or have questions please contact the office at (780) 437-7231, or by e-mail at stmag@telus.net. We are especially looking for more individuals to act as Greeters/ Side People, Intercessors (Prayers of the people), kitchen volunteers, and people offering prayers during communion. The opportunity is still available to help out as a reader, lay administrant, nursery supervisor, Sunday school, altar guild, and music coordinators

St. Margaret’s Outreach

The revised final total for the Water School is $3380.00

Total to date for the World Vision Child Sponsorship is $140.00

An anonymous donor has made the following proposal:

1. The anonymous donor will match all funds, dollar for dollar, that are contributed to the World Vision project this fall.

2. There is a time limit and it runs out on Christmas Day, 2009.

3. This offer is an encouragement to give more, not less because we know there will be a sizable increase at the end of the program.

4. For every dollar you give, there is a tax benefit. Assuming you are in a position to pay income tax, of approximately 25%. This means that your donation really only cost you $0.75 for every dollar you give. At the other end, the recipient specifically, they receive your dollar plus the matching dollar, which is now a total of $2.00. So the multiplying effect is $2.00/$0.75 = 260%. Or put another way, for every $0.75 out of your pocket (after tax) the kids in the program get $2.00.

See the Bulletin Board upstairs to learn more about the children we are sponsoring
